Winemaker Notes
Brunello di Montalcino from Le Macioche is ripe and supple. Aromas of dried
berries, plum, and sour cherry mix with hints of oak, sweet spice, and leather. This powerful red wine is held
in perfect harmony by an undercurrent of brilliant acidity and a structure of firm yet ripe tannins. A
substantial wine without ever feeling heavy. The finish is long, balanced, and complex.93+ Points,
Monica Larner (Robert Parker Wine Advocate)We really need to wait a few years until we see the
full potential of Le Macioche, once winemaking has been entirely integrated under the watchful eye of the
Cotarella family. As much as I enjoyed this sample (tasted in a preview capacity), I’m giving the upper hand to
the 2016 Brunello, which feels more vibrant, direct and precise in comparison. However, the 2015 Brunello di
Montalcino Riserva Cotarella, has a lot to offer and is certainly distinguished by its firm and concentrated
tannins and the thick density of its fruit. Forest berry, medicinal herb, cola and potting soil appear on the
bouquet. This wine shows intensity, with increased austerity. Le Macioche is a jewel of an estate with five
hectares of vines and a picturesque foresteria, or guesthouse framed by cypress trees. This is a limited release
of 3,500 bottles.
